The information draws inspiration also from Recommendation # 2/2001 adopted on May 17, 2001 by the European authorities for personal data protection, belonging to the group established by art. 29 of Directive # 95/46/CE. Aim of this recommendation was to identify minimum requirements for online collection of personal data and, more specifically, procedures, times and nature of the information to be provided by data processing controllers to users when they connect to web pages, regardless of their purposes.

Upon consulting this website data on recognized or recognizable people can be processed.
The data processing “controller” is ISMETT S.r.l., Piazza Sett’Angeli, 10 – 90134 PALERMO (ITALY).

Data processing location
Data processing for web services of this website takes place at the above-mentioned premises of ISMETT and is exclusively handled by the technical staff of the department in charge of the processing, or by internal staff in charge of occasional maintenance.
No data from the web service shall be communicated or disseminated, unless for procedures strictly related to users’ requests.
Personal data provided by users requesting information material to be sent (general information, answers to questions, etc.) shall only used to perform the service or performance required, and communicated to third parties provided it is necessary for this purpose (shipment of information material, etc.).

Types of data processed
A. Navigation data
Information systems and software to ensure the efficiency of the website acquire, in their routine activity, personal data whose transmission is implicit in the use of Internet communication protocols.

This information is not collected for purpose of associating them to identified users but, given its nature, may lead to identifying users following its processing and association with data of third parties.

This data includes IP addresses or domain names of users’ computers when connecting to the website, URI (Uniform Resource Identifier) notation addresses of required resources, request time, procedure used for request submission to the server, size of the file obtained in reply, number code indicating the status of the answer given by the server (successful, error, etc.) and other parameters regarding the operating system and the user’s information environment.

These data are only used to obtain anonymous statistical information on the use of the website and to control its proper functioning, and they are stored for the time established by the law. Data might be used to ascertain responsibilities in case of hypothetical information offences to the detriment of the website.

B. Data provided spontaneously by users
The optional, explicit and voluntary sending of e-mails to the addresses specified on this website entails the subsequent acquisition of the sender’s address, necessary to answer requests, as well as of the any personal data included in the message.

C. Cookies
No personal data of users is acquired by the website.

No cookies are used for the transmission of personal information, nor are the so-called persistent cookies used, i.e. systems to track users.
The use of the so-called session cookies, which are not memorized on the user’s workstation and disappear when the browser is closed, is strictly limited to the transmission of identification data of the session (consisting of random numbers generated by the server) necessary to enable the safe and efficient exploration of the website.
The session cookies thus used prevent from using other information techniques potentially harmful for the privacy of users’ surfing and do not allow for the acquisition of personal data which might identify the users.

Optional provision of data
Except for what specified for navigation data, users are free to provide the personal data specified in the website’s request form or indicated when contacting the Department to urge the shipment of information material or of other communications.
The successful processing of the user’s request is contingent on the provision of said data.

For sake of completeness, please note that for selected events (not dealt with in the ordinary management of this website) the Authority may ask for information in compliance with art. 157 of Law 196/2003, for purpose of controlling personal data processing. In these cases, the answer is mandatory under penalty of administrative sanction.

Data processing
Personal data are processed electronically for the time strictly necessary to pursue the goals for which they have been collected.
Specific security measures are complied with to prevent loss of data, illegitimate or incorrect use or unauthorized accesses.

Right of the persons concerned
At any time the persons whom the personal data refer to are entitled to know whether the data subsist or not, the content and origin thereof, or request that these be integrated, updated, or corrected (art. 7, Law 196/2003).
In accordance with this article, the person concerned is also entitled to request deletion, conversion into anonymous form or blocking of data processed in an illegal manner and to deny, for legitimate reasons, that these be processed.
Requests shall be submitted to ISMETT.

Granfondo, in bici per la vita!

Si terrà in Sicilia la 7ª edizione della Granfondo Ciclistica dei Trapiantati, organizzata dall’Associazione “Amici del trapianto di fegato” di Bergamo. La Granfondo è una manifestazione ciclistica non competitiva che ha l’obiettivo di promuovere la donazione degli organi e lo sviluppo della ricerca. Al giro ciclistico, che si svolgerà l’ultima settimana di settembre 2010, prenderanno parte pazienti sottoposti a trapianto che sono oggi di nuovo in grado di vivere una vita normale.

La Granfondo, che prevede come tappe: Palermo, Trapani, Sciacca, Caltanissetta, Catania e Messina, avrà inizio lunedì 27 settembre e si concluderà venerdì 1 ottobre. Il giro ciclistico, dopo la cerimonia di apertura e l’incontro con gli alunni del Liceo Garibaldi di Palermo, partirà dal piazzale ISMETT e si dirigerà verso le altre tappe della manifestazione.

1 Regenerative Medicine / Tissue Engineering Fellow

UPMC Italy is seeking an outstanding candidate for its Fellowship in Tissue Engineering, funded within a collaborative research program directed by Professor Ranieri Cancedda and recently established at ISMETT, in collaboration with the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine of the University of Pittsburgh and the Regenerative Medicine Laboratory of the University of Genoa and of the National Institute for Cancer Research of Genoa. The selected candidate will contribute to the development of innovative cell therapy and tissue engineering products for the repair/regeneration of skeletal tissues (cartilage and bone), see to the implementation of suitable biomaterials to be adopted as scaffold and cell carriers and, in the case of bone, to the use of growth factors and bioactive molecules to support angiogenesis and vascularization of the newly formed tissue.
